GoogleTasks is another good, simple option if you're already invested in the Google ecosystem. I would probably even say to start here before paying money for any service. It's free AFAIK and brought over a lot of features from Wunderlist. At the simpler end is something like Microsoft ToDo. I believe it's free and works best in web. Trello is cool is kanban boards are your thing. There were also things about their privacy policy that gave me significant pause. I tried it but found the mobile app on iPhone really lacking. Development was pretty slow there for awhile but they have added some new features to the app that have made it better. It has a lot of features but no calendar view. Second, what are the cheap/free options available within your current ecosystem? Third, how important are certain specific features to you personally (e.g., location-based reminders, app's level of privacy, attachment capabilities, sharing, etc)? All of our use cases are a bit different. First, which devices do you need the app on? You say that mobile isn't important, but I've found mobile personally to be really important for capturing things that pop into my head. Some of this is going to be very device-specific, but I recommend a few considerations. No matter what app I use, I commit to reviewing the tasks at the beginning of each. Third, reviewing my tasks at the beginning of each day. I will also add any relevant detail to the task (like attachments or notes). Second, taking those items in the inbox and assigning them to the appropriate project, along with a due date (if needed) and priority. Obviously some of that is influenced by the features offered by the app, but a lot of it is just committing to a routine.įirst, getting any tasks that pop into my head into my app's "inbox." Basically, a brain dump. One thing I've realized is that which app you use matters a lot less than the process/routine you develop around using that app. I've tried A LOT of task managers over the years (I have fun just testing them out).
